The Great Presbytery Staff Tour!

In last month’s newsletter, you read that Tara Atherton, Mary Woodman, and myself were selected for the leadership roles under the Presbytery’s new staffing model. Which no doubt left many of you thinking “okay, but who are these people, and why do I care?”

Those are excellent questions, and ones we are hoping to answer as quickly as we can. Which is why the three of us are hitting the road. Over the summer and fall months, we will be holding a series of town hall style gatherings at various host church locations around the Presbytery of Northern New York, to which all members of the Presbytery are invited.

The purpose of these gatherings will be threefold:
1) For you to get to know the three of us.
2) For the three of us to get to know you.
3) For all of us to have open dialogue about the current and future disposition of the Presbytery.

Dates and locations will be forthcoming in the days to come. It is our hope that everybody will have an option that is within a reasonable driving distance to facilitate your joining us. We hope to see you there, and look forward to our journey together!

Rev Dr Shea Zellweger
Pastor to the Councils

We Need Your Help!!

Hello Presbytery of Northern New York!
As the chair of the Nominating Committee, I am reaching out to all of you because I need some help in filling some positions on various committees in our Presbytery. If you or someone in your church would be a good fit and/or feels the Spirit moving you to serve the Presbytery, please email me and let me know (shupcpastor@gmail.com). The sooner we get these spots filled the better for all of us!

Finance Committee- We used to have one but it has fallen by the wayside in recent years. There is an interest and need to revive this group, as currently the work of the finance committee is being done by folks and groups that are not technically the ones to be doing it. We are looking for 3-4 people who are interested in serving on this group.
Committee on Preparation for Ministry (CPM)- It recently came to our attention that we do not have all the spots filled that we need to have filled. We have room for 3 more people: one to serve a one year term, one to serve a two year term, and one to serve a three year term.
Trustees- Two people for a three year term.
Personnel- One person for a three year term.
Coordinating Council- One person for a one year term, two people for a three year term.
COM- Two people for a two year term.

Our priority is the Finance Committee and then CPM, but if we can get every position filled that would be fantastic.
Thank you so much for your help!
Rev. Summer Sattora
Chair, Presbytery Nominating Committee

CPC Seeking a Pastor:

The congregation of the Chazy Presbyterian Church (CPC) is actively searching for a Pastor whom God has chosen to lead us into the future.  Established in 1805, CPC is located in the town of Chazy, a rural community north of Plattsburgh, NY. The congregation is made up of people from multiple towns in the region.

Currently, average weekly attendance is 22. Sunday service includes live music (piano/organ), followed by coffee hour in our Social Hall. Our congregants actively participate in the service as either leaders or readers. We have an active Session Board and Women’s group that gets things done. Both groups meet monthly and play a huge role in elevating the spirit of our church.

Our loving, motivated, and compassionate congregation needs a pastor that will lead us with relevant preaching and teaching.  The position is part-time, requiring leadership for Sunday services, several holidays, and moderating regular meetings. The position includes (if desired) use of a well-maintained house in close proximity to the church in the quiet village of Chazy, within walking distance of a bank, convenience store, post office, library and school. Salary and benefits are negotiable.

Please send resume and references to: The Chazy Presbyterian Church Pastoral Nominating Committee, PO Box 548, Chazy, NY 12921.

Our church seeks to be a community through which God works to make disciples of Jesus Christ. In this community, we experience Christian community as we walk our spiritual journey with others. As disciples, we are strengthened by God’s Spirit to live out God’s love in word and deed.

Changes in Our Presbytery

It has been so exciting, these last few months, watching all the changes that we’ve had with our weather. We went from cold snowy icy weather to the grass, becoming this beautiful vibrant green and seeing all the buds coming back on the trees. I don’t know if it’s safe to say that the winter weather is finally gone, but as I sit on my porch, soaking up the warmth of the sun and listening to the bird’s chirp, I am eager to say goodbye to winter.
There have been a few changes going on in our Presbytery as well. We all said a tearful goodbye to our Resource Presbyter, David Bennett, back in December. David has been an amazing Resource to our Presbytery for 8 years and had left a very big hole in the Presbytery for others to step up and fill. Our Coordinating Council created a committee to find these people willing to take on that responsibility in the Presbytery. They worked extremely hard collecting applications, doing interviews, and agreeing on who the New Leadership would be. Many thanks go to this Committee.
The Presbytery of Northern New York Welcomes:
Lead Presbytery – RE Tara Atherton
Pastor to the Councils – TE Shea Zellweger
Pastor to the Pastors – TE Mary Woodman
Please feel free to click on the names of each person and send them a “Welcome” or “Congratulations” email.
Another change that I have been wanting to make is to have a Monthly Newsletter. If your church has something to be announced in our Newsletter, please send me your articles by the 25th of every month. We want to celebrate and encourage everyone in our Presbytery, and I need your help to make that happen. Nothing is too little or too big.

Peace be with you all,
RE Tara Atherton
